Whether the mechanism of incorporation in the mitochondria-supplemented system is the same as in the soluble fraction-supplemented system, where amino acid adenylates are believed to be intermediates, does not appear to have been determined. Whether the incorporation of amino acids under the above conditions really represents protein synthesis is a question that has continually plagued biochemists.
