To solve the problem of services having to cope with additional work demands, more resources are needed. The search for funding often causes major problems. Funding almost always needs justification, yet the therapeutic value of some activities for which funding is sought is not always obvious to the politicians or funders. Lack of service provision and the need for support are not new issues. They have been faced by carers working with many groups of people for long periods of time. This must be kept in mind when we begin to look at HIV and AIDS-related issues.
